Amending a birth certificate record

have listed each State phone number and a link to the vital records website so you can find out the exact procedure for your State. As a general rule, if you were married during pregnancy the married man is legally considered the biological father.
The only way to amend a birth certificate, if you were married, is by a court finding of paternity. In this situation you will need to proceed with a legal paternity test in order amend the birth certificate. The procedure is a little easier if you were not married during the pregnancy.
To add a father's name to a birth record, both the mother and the alleged father can sign an affidavit affirming that alleged father is the biological father. In this situation you can use our personal paternity test to prove paternity before you sign the affidavit. |
